Your student was given a permission slip for our April 12th trip to Springfield today. There is also a separate sheet to fill out for any parents who are thinking they might be interested in chaperoning our trip. This is not a binding comittment, simply looking for number possibilities.
You will receive more detailed information about the trip (times, itinerary, food, emergency contact, etc.) closer to the trip.
We would appreciate it if the chaperone form comes back to school on Tuesday, January 17th.
We need to receive the signed registration, along with full payment no later than March 1st.
The 4/5 team is very excited about this trip and hope that all 4/5 students will be able to attend!

We had a great response to our initial request and one parent was selected (by lottery draw) from each homeroom to ride the busses. Everyone else will need to drive or be part of a carpool.
Forms were sent home to all who volunteered to chaperone the trip. The cost to parents who are driving is $30. This covers the cost of admission to the museum and dinner. Please return this form no later than this Monday, March 19th. The final count must be turned into the tour company that day and we cannot add anyone beyond this date.
After Monday, we will be sorting the children into groups by chaperone and closer to the trip you will receive the names of the students you are chaperoning, along with our behavioral expectations of the students, a list of other parents attending (to form carpools), and a phone tree.
Thank you for volunteering! We are looking forward to a great trip.

The 5th grade students are a little more than halfway through their geometry unit. They have been learning about angles – their names, how to measure, and how to draw. They have also been exploring properties of polygons and triangles, and will be creating tesselations next week. They will be tested on unit 3 on Wednesday, December 30th.

The students are working as geographers and cartographers creating their Illinois maps. They have been busy labelling cities and all the rivers in our state. It is pretty amazing to see how much water runs through Illinois. When maps are completed, we will be putting on our historian hats and exploring how our state came to be.

This Monday is our Trick or Trade Fair. Parents are welcome to observe the activity. The classes will begin in the gym at 2:15 (please note the time change!). At 2:45 the room parents will be setting up snacks in the classrooms while the teachers debrief with the students in the gym.
Please note if you are planning to stay in the classroom after the fair: it is not a party. It is a snack to end the day.
A few reminders: the posters are due in class tomorrow, the products are due in the classrooms Friday with the shoebox, and the students need to be ready to perform their commercial for their homeroom on Monday morning. Rubrics were given for both the poster and the commercial.
The 4/5 teachers and students are very excited and looking forward to our authentic experience with economy!

A number of our 4/5 students are in need of shoeboxes for their Trick or Trade products. If have any extra (shoeboxes only please, no boot boxes), please send them in to your child’s homeroom teacher. Thank you for your help!
