We also had several students honored this week for a variety of different things. We hope you will join us for our last WSM on Tuesday, June 5th @ 9:30 to celebrate all of their accomplishments.

Please don’t forget to check out this week’s edition of the LP Press May 11. As always, it is filled with important information.

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful week. We are looking forward to Monday’s events.

  •  Monday after school our Battle of the Books team will be competing in the District 54 competition. Our 3rd and 4th grade team placed in the cluster competition last week, sending them to Monday’s battle. Congratulations to them and a big Power Whoosh to our competing students! This will take place at 4pm at the district office.
  • Portfolio Night, Art Auction, Celebrate Reading and Writing and the Book Fair will begin Monday evening at 6:30pm.

It is important that we all make time to come and see the work our children have done throughout the year. The excitement we show in their work will certainly help affirm their achievements.

Good afternoon,

This has been amazing week for the LP community! We hosted our first ever Taste of LP, Multicultural Night and ended the week with our 5th annual whole school field trip.

Tuesday evening families joined each other in celebration of our diversity and culture. Over 20
countries were represented through artifacts, performances, crafts and of course, FOOD!! We not only had families that cooked and served their fellow LP families native cuisine, but many more that attended to take in the different experiences of other families. On behalf of all that attended, I say THANK YOU to those that shared their culture with the rest of us and THANK YOU to those that came to learn about others. I look forward to watching a possible new tradition emerge at LP!

Today our whole school field trip took place. Teachers came back with glowing remarks about the
interactions between students, their exemplary behavior and the purposeful conversations that took place afterward. I ’m sure your children will share more about their experiences. As I reflect on the purpose for this annual whole school neighborhood field trip, I am reminded of how important providing formal and informal opportunities for our students to interact with other students ranging from Kindergarten through Eighth grade truly is.  As we prepare for our WITWILP adventure this spring, I am confident the relationships our children have developed with other students throughout the year will serve them well!

Lastly, some bits of information:
-THANK YOU to the families that have volunteered to serve as new Family Mentors. We have
enough volunteers and are already preparing for next year!
-MAP testing begins next week. Please make sure to send students to school well rested!
-If you are still looking to volunteer for WITWILP, please complete the attached form and
return it to school ASAP. We are still in need of volunteers!

Have a wonderful
weekend!

Good afternoon,

Another end to a fabulous week! Today we had a jam-packed WSM. Student’s showcased some creative learning, as well as several community recognitions. Please read through the
following information carefully, as well as this week’s LP Press.

LP Press April 13th

WITWILP is almost upon us. During our WSM today, we explained in further detail what was in store during our upcoming BIG EVENT. We have included an explanation for the
community in this week’s edition of the LP Press. Before spring break, we sent home a volunteer interest inventory. I’ve attached it to this email as well. The three day simulation will take place May 29th-31st and the evening event will happen on May 31st. Check your calendars and
choose the times that work for you. There are ways WE ALL can get involved!

Lastly, Thank you
to those of you that have volunteered to serve as New Family Mentors! We are still in need of 8 more. Please replay to this email if you are interested!

Have a great weekend!

LP Press April 5th

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is looking forward to the beautiful weekend ahead of us!  As we enter in to the craziness we call Springtime @ LP, this week’s edition of the LP Press, as well as the next few
weeks will be packed FULL of event information for the spring, as well as next year.  Please make it a point to read through them weekly.

Next week we have quite a bit going on.

Monday 9th
- Our monthly PTSA meeting Monday @7pm

- ML Science Fair @ 6pm

Tuesday 10th
- Our annual HS Transition Night for 8th graders and their parents @6pm

Thursday 12th

-PTSA parent education workshop @ 6:15pm

Friday 13th
- April WSM on @ 1:15pm.

Last week our newest LP students received their invitations to join the LP community. We are
once again in need of mentor families. Mentor families provide a nice welcome to our new families, as well as a contact for new parents as they navigate through their new school community. If you’d like to volunteer for this important role, please email or call me directly before Monday, April 16th. If you’d like more information before you commit, please let me know.

As always, have a wonderful weekend!

LP Press March 16th

Good afternoon,

As I mentioned last week, this week’s LP Press is linked instead of attached as a
document. Our hope is that this provides an easily managed way to read through
PTSA and school information on a weekly basis. It will also be a nice reminder
to check out our website on a regular basis.

We have another large edition, so please take some time to read through it. Many
of you may be interested in checking out the PTA Summer Scholarship
Application. The deadline is fast approaching!

This week we have had the Hoffman Estates Police Department monitoring our dismissal
and drop off traffic, specifically on Newport Road (behind the building). It is
important that we are all aware of some simple things we can do to alleviate
congestion in our neighborhood. We have great neighbors and would like to show them
respect from our community.  Blocking driveways
and making streets impassable cause safety issues for our students as well.

When dropping off/picking up students on Newport or Hillcrest, please do not park
your vehicle in front of driveways, in the middle of the street, in front or
near crosswalks or the back path. If you need to park your vehicle, please do
so up the street so that your parked vehicle does not casue a “bottleneck” with
traffic. If you see congestion, please refrain from adding to it.

Enjoy the wonderful weather this weekend!

LP Press for 3/9/12

Good afternoon,

The majority of our ISAT testing has been completed. We have some make ups next week, but the end is near. . .

On behalf of the LP staff, we’d like to share how proud we are of the accomplishments of our children. Students in grades 3rd-8th worked conscientiously during every test. Their attitude and concentration was commendable. Our K-2nd graders did a wonderful job supporting our testing environment by traveling quietly in the hallways and encouraging their siblings and friends.

While we know that these tests do not convey all of what our children know, they do allow our students to demonstrate their ability to work hard and show what they have learned.

As always, you will find the LP Press attached to this email. Beginning next week this email will include a link to our website so that our sometime very large newsletter attachment will not take up so much space in your inboxes.

Middle Level families, in the weeks ahead we will be transitioning away from paper copies of the weekly grades/missing assignment reports. Now that ALL students and many parents have access to the Parent Portal, we will begin to use this as the vehicle to access student information. There is still time to sign up if you haven’t already. Please contact your child’s advisory teacher or the main office for more information.

Have a great weekend!
