September 10, 2021
  Dear Lincoln Prairie Community,

While a short week, it was an eventful one! Here at school we’ve been in preparation mode for all of the events and traditions that take place at Lincoln Prairie. We will be starting the first round of Project Development Time with students next week. We took time to reflect at each grade level on the transition to the school year, how students are settling in and shifts in procedures and routines that may need to take place. We successfully conducted our first day of SHIELD testing as well. It went well and by next week, we are sure to already be in a routine. Lastly, we have begun preparations for Student Led Conferences in October. You will receive information soon about how to sign up electronically for your child(ren)’s conference.

Lincoln Prairie Clubs
We are looking forward to offering our students many opportunities to enjoy their interests and find new passions within our clubs this year. You can find our club brochure for the 21-22 school year linked here. Starting Monday, September 13th you can also find it on our school website. At this time, these are our current offerings. As clubs near their start dates, students will hear about them on our morning announcements, as well as be able to pick up permission slips on our front board. If there are additional clubs created throughout the year, we will advertise them as well. We hope your child joins a club that inspires them!
Picture Day

Staff Only Lock Down Drill
My top priority as your school principal is to keep our students and staff safe. To that end, on Wednesday, Sept. 15, after school hours, our staff will be participating in a hard lockdown training at the school with the Schaumburg Police Department. No students will be involved in this drill.
However, I wanted to make you aware of the drill because there will be multiple police officers and vehicles at our school during that time. Police will have a sign out front stating that there is a drill in progress, for anyone who may drive by and be concerned.

COVID Dashboard
With suburban Cook County now in a level of high community transmission of COVID-19 (Cook County Department of Public Health), District 54 has decided to create COVID Dashboards on each school’s website to provide families and staff with a transparent summary of instances of COVID-19 reported to District 54. A positive case indicates that the student or staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Please report cases of COVID-19 to our school so that we can initiate contact tracing. Parents/guardians of students identified as close contacts will be contacted directly to discuss next steps. District 54 will update these dashboards by 3 p.m. on Fridays when school is in session. Click here to access our dashboard.

Run to Read
Join School District 54 in supporting literacy and promoting health and fitness for the young and old by participating in the 17th Annual Run to Read.  All proceeds for the event will be used to purchase books for classroom libraries.

With suburban Cook County now in a level of high community transmission of COVID-19 (Cook County Department of Public Health), School District 54 has made the decision to move the 2021 Run to Read to a virtual format only. Our goal for this race has always been to promote health and fitness. In 2021, that includes a focus on keeping our students and staff, and their families, healthy so that we can continue to keep our students attending school in person.
We hope that you will continue to join us by walking or running 1-mile, 5K, 10K, kids’ sprint, or any distance you prefer during race weekend—Sept. 24-26. Wear the T-shirt during your virtual race, take a photo and tag us on social media at #54Run2Read.
