We are making an update to our Peanut/Treenut procedures in our K-8 classrooms. This year, students who bring peanut/tree nut products during lunch will be asked to move to a designated table in their classroom to eat that portion of their lunch. We will also be sending a letter today to all classes that have a student with a peanut/tree nut allergy to encourage families to limit sending peanut/tree nut products with their children for lunch, if possible.
Our Cleaning Protocol will remain the same. Immediately following lunch, all tables and desks will be thoroughly cleaned by an adult using a district-approved, hard-surface cleaner to remove any potential allergens. Additionally, all students are required to wash their hands with soap and water after eating, as alcohol-based hand sanitizers are not effective at removing allergen residue. We will continue to not allow peanut/treenut products during snack time in classrooms, as this time is often combined with an instructional time which would be difficult to manage monitoring and cleaning protocols.
As always, we will continue to encourage our students to refrain from sharing food, walking around while eating and monitored hand washing hygiene.
